Early Days
Christopher Bruce Hemsworth was born on August 11, 1983 in Christchurch, New Zealand. Chris is the middle child, having both an older brother Luke and younger brother Liam. At age 6, his family moved to Melbourne, Australia. The family would eventually move further south to Phillip Island where his parents worked alongside his uncle and aunt at a cattle station. Hemsworth was raised without a Television set in a warm Aboriginal community that was 2 hours from the closest civic center. He described being raised in the Australian Outback like living out a scene from the book, Where the Wild Things Are.
Acting Career
After graduating from Heath Moon Secondary College, Hemsworth was motivated into acting after observing the acting success of his older brother, Luke. He would eventually land a role in the Australian soap, Home and Away between 2004 to 2007. Daytime soap fame would lead him to a stint on Australia's version of Dancing With the Stars.
Hemsworth broke into Hollywood after landing the role of George Kirk, father of James T. Kirk, in the opening scenes of J. J. Abrams' Star Trek reboot in 2009. Later that year, he would appear in A Perfect Getaway with Steve Zahn, Timothy Olyphant, and Milla Jovovich. In 2010, he would appear in Ca$h, with Sean Bean.
Hemsworth's breakthrough Hollywood performance was portraying a superhero and Norse God in the 2011 Marvel Comics' film, Thor. His next role is reprising Thor in The Avengers movie, due out in May 2012.
Relationships
Chris Hemsworth is married to Spanish actress Elsa Pataky. After dating for several months, they declared their relationship to the world in September 2010. Hemsworth and Pataky became husband and wife the last weekend of December, 2010.
